So!

Like, the day after I posted about how I was excited to finally have time and energy to work on finishing up the comic, I got a call back from Playdom for an interview. Playdom is a Disney-owned company that makes awesome free casual games for the internet, smart phones, ipad, etc. I have never had a game job before, much less a full-time-ish art job. So I was really nervous! but everyone I met during my interview at the studio was super nice. I ended up getting a contractor job there for a few months (as far as I know) working on a game that I can't talk about until it's released later this year. I have to say that the last two weeks working there have been awesome, everyone at the studio is incredibly nice and hard-working and devoted to the games. I'm learning a lot about workflow, as well as getting used to talking to people again! I've been freelancing for a year, and haven't really worked in a full team environment before ever, so it's an interesting experience. My official title there is "Junior Artist", and if you know me and how much I enjoy working my way up from the bottom, you'll also know that suits me just fine XD

The downside is that my commute is about 45 mins to an hour each way, which means that I'm engaged and out of the house from around 8-7 every day. I wake up at 6 and go to bed around 11, and have to eat and talk to family and etc, so that gives me roughly 2-3 hours a day to work on comics. I tried it out last week... could have been better, I was really tired at night and spent all morning messing around on the internet v__v But I'm going to keep punching myself in the head until something works for me and the comic. I'm hoping to do Tuesday updates until the end of my contract, that gives me most the weekend and part of a day to work. Tracy (Lackadaisy) is an art director at another casual game company... I have developed a deeper appreciation for all the work she does in order to get her comic out even once a month :C You come home and don't feel like drawing anymore, you know?

ANYWAYS if you've read this far then good for you, you are now in the loop. If you have any questions about anything, please feel free to ask! I'm sorry I've been absent, it's just a really big change for me, who usually sits at my desk all day working and never has to go outside or talk to people. I've never been a social person so going to work and talking is exhausting for me in that regard. But I'm so grateful and happy for the opportunity and to be around such awesome coworkers so I want to do my best there and still put out as good as I can for the comic... I'll regroup in a few months when my contract is up and see how things are doing I guess.

Thanks for sticking around! I can attribute getting this job and all the money I'm making to live directly to The Meek, so this is a crazy step for me that I couldn't have taken without your readership.

Great to hear the first weeks have been great so far and you're feeling comfortable with the team! :3

Glad to hear things are going well!
One of my fellow artists has a writer and colorist for his webcomic, so that certainly helps keep up the page a week rate. I tried doing all my layouts and script in advance, but even with only inks and colors it's tough to sacrifice most of my free time each week to one hobby. I've relaxed my comic schedule in favor of better pages versus timely ones ^_^;

Welcome to the world of casual game production art! :D I can totally commiserate with how you feel about not wanting to draw after a long day of work and commuting, it's amazing what the usual 9-5 can do to a body. I definitely support your decision in producing quality over quantity, so don't worry! Your fans seem to be very loyal. Anyway, congrats on the sexy new job, and thank you for updating us with your status! :D

Oh man, congrats on the job! I know exactly how you feel. My commute is about an hour each way too, BUT I'm lucky because they let me work from home three days a week now which helps with physical and mental exhaustion. I honestly can't imagine going five days a week anymore, and the days I do go I just come home and wanna veg out. It impresses me even more when people like you or Tracy put out the quality work you do on a regular basis as well as keeping full-time jobs. It's really tough!

Keep up the fantastic work, and good luck at Playdom! :DDDD I hope you get to work on something awesome!

Good for you!
I'm just happy to hear that the reason for the wait was because of something awesome, and not terrible! I'm actually a 3D modeler looking for a job, so hearing about someone in an artistic field getting hired is always exciting! Congratulations! :D

Always a pleasure to read your comic, btw. Can't wait to see everything unfold!

[fussy artistocrat voice][How dare you delay my free entertainment so that you can have an awesome job and money and not die of starvation! I shall fetch my dueling gloves forthwith!

Seriously, it's great that more people have noticed your wonderful work! I can wait for Lackadaisy, I can wait for the Meek too- I'd rather have a comic with the artist's attention and heart behind it than something rushed! Enjoy the new job!

Grats on the job! The game industry is a really creative place to be in. :) The only drawback is, indeed, a very little time for personal projects - sometimes it's really energy draining. People are really dedicated where I work and crunching/overtime is not rare because of it. Work always comes first/before personal projects and freelancing as it brings in tha cash! But it's fun! And you get to meet so many awesome people. :)

I truly understand your situation. But you will get used to it, don't worry! As soon as you get into the rutines and get used to meet people again. It will do wonders to your comic too, working on something that brings income that is creative and different - exchanging ideas irl! You will evolve as a person and an artist in a different way compared to freelancing/working alone. *thumbs up* Can't wait to see what your team is working on in the future! Playdom rocks! :) I am really happy to know that you get to work there.

Good luck - you always have my support! :3 Keep on being awesome!
