So!
Like, the day after I posted about how I was excited to finally have time and energy to work on finishing up the comic, I got a call back from Playdom for an interview. Playdom is a Disney-owned company that makes awesome free casual games for the internet, smart phones, ipad, etc. I have never had a game job before, much less a full-time-ish art job. So I was really nervous! but everyone I met during my interview at the studio was super nice. I ended up getting a contractor job there for a few months (as far as I know) working on a game that I can't talk about until it's released later this year. I have to say that the last two weeks working there have been awesome, everyone at the studio is incredibly nice and hard-working and devoted to the games. I'm learning a lot about workflow, as well as getting used to talking to people again! I've been freelancing for a year, and haven't really worked in a full team environment before ever, so it's an interesting experience. My official title there is "Junior Artist", and if you know me and how much I enjoy working my way up from the bottom, you'll also know that suits me just fine XD
The downside is that my commute is about 45 mins to an hour each way, which means that I'm engaged and out of the house from around 8-7 every day. I wake up at 6 and go to bed around 11, and have to eat and talk to family and etc, so that gives me roughly 2-3 hours a day to work on comics. I tried it out last week... could have been better, I was really tired at night and spent all morning messing around on the internet v__v But I'm going to keep punching myself in the head until something works for me and the comic. I'm hoping to do Tuesday updates until the end of my contract, that gives me most the weekend and part of a day to work. Tracy (Lackadaisy) is an art director at another casual game company... I have developed a deeper appreciation for all the work she does in order to get her comic out even once a month :C You come home and don't feel like drawing anymore, you know?
ANYWAYS if you've read this far then good for you, you are now in the loop. If you have any questions about anything, please feel free to ask! I'm sorry I've been absent, it's just a really big change for me, who usually sits at my desk all day working and never has to go outside or talk to people. I've never been a social person so going to work and talking is exhausting for me in that regard. But I'm so grateful and happy for the opportunity and to be around such awesome coworkers so I want to do my best there and still put out as good as I can for the comic... I'll regroup in a few months when my contract is up and see how things are doing I guess.
Thanks for sticking around! I can attribute getting this job and all the money I'm making to live directly to The Meek, so this is a crazy step for me that I couldn't have taken without your readership.
