Re: Schedule changes!
So like I mentioned, The Meek is going back to once a week updates. I'm sure you all know by now that I love making this comic more than anything... the problem is that I am now back to taking grad level classes, have student teaching to commit to, and am working on another large (paying) art project to boot. The expected workload for those two is already... all my waking hours, but I'm going to try to keep the comic going nevertheless. Considering that it takes around 8-10 hours to make a single page you can understand why I'm dropping the second weekly update.

I'd like nothing more than to be able to update 2 or 3x a week, and it truly pains me to go back to slowsville. But I also need to get my career on track. I will do my best to do the 1x a week, but I can't say for sure that I won't have a week or two in the semester where I'm going to be murdered if I don't let it slide. I guess I can figure that stuff out when it comes.

Conversely, if I find myself in the midst of a break or something I will try to do an extra page. I hate 1x a week pacing as much as you do, believe me.

To those of you who're reading this, thanks very much for your understanding :) Everyone else can go to hell.

Being a teacher myself, I KNOW how it goes. Please don't push yourself. I'm sure we'd all rather you stay sane and healthy at one update a week (with potential missed weeks) than get two updates for a few weeks only for you to be unhappy and burned out. The Meek is a labor of love of on your part, and a joy to read on ours. I for one am more than happy to wait all the time it takes ^_^

I'd say if you get a break and can do extra pages, use them to build a buffer instead of posting. That way you could still do an update if you don't have the time later on.

The problem is that I don't have a break :B Otherwise I totally would have! Buffering makes so much sense XD Maybe on of my readers has a time machine I can borrow or something...

I's saying if, like you said in the original post here. "Conversely, if I find myself in the midst of a break or something…"

That's really understandable. You know, the important thing is that you are making the comic the way you want to, in your own - current - pace. And rushing things because of obligated chapters in life, work and studies is not good! You might faint!! And make it feel bothersome. Before you know it, you might have more time to draw - until then, take it slow!

I think it's an acceptable pace actually. Considering there are comics that updates even more seldomly ( *cough* like me ), and it feels alright!

You know. It's worth the wait, because we know every page is filled with awesome. :) And I think everyone agrees to that, you need to calm down for a change and also focus on career. :)

I second the comments that say you should use any extra pages to create a buffer rather than post them right away. I find that for my own comic things go much better if you just pick an update schedule and stick to it as much as possible. Extra pages and such can be confusing, and it's better to avoid a potential missed update later than to give people extra goods now. And also: don't drive yourself crazy! Take your time and don't burn out. :)

Sounds good in theory XD I'dve liked to have made a buffer during this last month, but had too many other things to finish. I also have an unfortunate habit of really wanting to share what I do right after I do it. I don't really expect to have any free time this semester so this might all be a moot discussion, but I guess we'll see!

It just makes me sad that your career ISN'T making comics. It's ludicrous that it's not because you're so goddamned good! But hopefully whatever it is you're in school for is something you love even more.

But as for your posting schedule, people have no right to bitch about something they're getting for free. So sod anyone who complains.

Aw, thanks :B I'd like to do comics full time but I'd also not like to starve to death, haha.

I hear ya. The world sucks.

If only they payed you for posting this comic. Since you don't charge people for reading I wanna say thank you for that. xD

Buffer pages sound awesome, I personally love them.

And there's not a single person who lives in the real world that doesn't understand how a job/school can get in the way. (If there is an alternate world however I would like to visit it. xD)

Thank you for any updates at all~ Life and career always come first ^_^ *dies from Chapter 2 cover already*

Just like Oglaf, I will loyally await by your update day!

I actually look forward to the slower pace (I might be the only one heh XD) I imagine this next chapter is going to be full to the eyeballs with DRAMA. Drama is a wine that must be savored.

take it easy and treat yourself gently. You've got quite a load to work through <3

Eh. Gotta do what you gotta do. :\

Bills don't pay themselves. (As much as we wish they would.)

Nor do groceries magically appear in your fridge absolutely free. (But that would be awesome.)

That aside, YAY CHAPTER 2! <3333

Oh, this is easy: Have your students watch (slightly) relevant videos, work on comic.

XD
D Helmer[info]alexds1 on August 23rd, 2009 05:01 am (UTC)
lol XD Unfortunately I have to wait until I'm a real teacher before slacking off... (at least in the classroom)

Career focusing will help you push yourself more to reach those goals you've set for yourself, and you've chosen to keep one page a week for The Meek as one of those goals and I think that's completely awesome! I'm also glad to hear that you're getting back into the student-teacher swing of things AND that you have other paying art gigs on your plate as well. YOU are a busy thing! BUT a busy thing with goals and priorities and you can't ask for better than that!

I look forward to your posts and The Meek and its a webcomic that I both love to keep voting for and sharing with everyone I can!
