Sorry about these lateass pages, like I mentioned on the site, I've been having some stuff going on. One of them is I'm finishing up the print version of Chapter 2, which needs to get done asap so I'm pushed the update to the side for a bit. I also have work and some other items that are due before the end of the month... I'll try to finish up a page for posting on Thurs or Friday XC The only good thing is that all comics are done being signed as of tonight, whew. Thanks for your patience with everything!

You know how trading cards have those assignations like normal, rare, super rare, ultra rare...

Preorder Sketches:
- Main Character Busts (Angora, Pinter, Mocheril): normal
- Secondary Character Busts (Kiz, that furry squirrel thing): rare
- Meowface (:3) Mocheril/Dagre: super rare
- Characters with derpy faces on the bodies of random animals: ultra rare

I just finished sketching in my 300th book D: The sketch was Pinter's face on a chinchilla

This announcement is for the sketched/ signed preorders for Chapter 1, which are no longer available. If you'd still like a copy of the Chapter 1 comic, they are for sale here

I am working hard on getting preorders signed! Let me make it clear what is going on, since I've been getting a lot of questions about when comics are being shipped and such...

June 18: I made the announcement about books ready for preorder
July 21: First day of Comicon, and the day the books arrived from the printers in Korea
Aug 4: I received 3 boxes of books from my publisher, each box with 200 comics in them. Also sleeves and cardboard backings for them.

There were about 515 preorders for sketched and signed books, and another 125 or so of just the signed copies. Since the 4th, I've been sketching and signing and packaging at a steady pace of 25 comics per night, which usually takes me about 3 hours (in addition to my workday). This schedule will allow me to finish all the books by around the 23rd of Aug. It is possible that I will be giving my publisher batches of completed books to be shipped out prior to that, but that is sort of up to my publisher and not to me. I am not doing the shipping of the books myself, that is going to be done by 4DE's shipping department.

That is all the info I have regarding preorders... hopefully that makes it clear that the books only arrived in the US 2 weeks ago, and I have only had them in my possession for a few days. I'm going as quickly as I can to make sure each book I send out is worth the extra cost, and you can be sure that you will be getting a book that was signed with lots of care and love. Thank you very much again for all of your patience.

If you have any additional questions that I don't have the answer to, please feel free to email my publisher directly at sales@4de.com

Thank you!

UPDATE 8/13: The first batch of 300 comics are being sent to my publisher this weekend, to be mailed out very shortly!
UPDATE 8/23: 175 more sketched/signed comics, and 52 signed comics were given to my publisher. Only 40 more sketched/signed and another 50 signed comics to go!

PS At the moment I'm also finalizing the Chapter 2 edits and extras... hopefully that will be available in a month or two!

A review by Lauren Davis popped up in my Wordpress link tracking thing: right over here. Nice! I should mention that I like reading reviews that aren't "the best," and hopefully if you are a comic artist, you will as well. Thinking your stuff is ever beyond criticism is not a good attitude to have... remember to always be fair with yourself and others.

And before you start shooting off your mouth about pronouns.... think about kittens. Kittens are not into that (and, interestingly, neither am I).

Also whuuut oh no she dint
Seriously Dylan is a Comics Hero and if you haven't read her comic Family Man yet (its amazing), you need to do that. Her archives are extensive and intensely amazing and will give you something fulfilling to read until the 5th, when 1) Even Dahm finishes up his incredible comic Order of Tales in one fell swoop and, less importantly 2) I start posting some dumb sketches.

I'm not kidding, you'd better go read those comics (there will be a quiz later).

Thanks so much to all of you for reading Chapter 2 :) Over the course of the last 45 weeks I have:

- become a credentialed teacher
- gained a publisher
- had my computer die, and then replaced through sheer force of love from readers of the comic
- had the pleasure of meeting many of you at conventions!
- finished 45 pages of comics on schedule

Thank you all so much for reading, enjoying, and sharing the comic. I've learned a lot doing this chapter (like architecture... arghghg) and its been a ton of fun. Chapter 3 is going to be so awesome, I can't tell you how much I'm looking forward to posting it!

In the meantime, I'll be posting the sketches for Chapter 2 up on the site. Like for the Chapter 1 sketches (visible to LJ-group members only), the pages will be posted online 2 at a time and then archived here.

If you want to look through other things to fill your time, I will be adding a lot of new material to the Meekipedia and will be posting new art at my deviantArt. If you want to ask me an anonymous question about things, there is always my Formspring If you want to be amused you can also look at the TV Tropes page for The Meek, it never fails to entertain XD

much <3

So I played around with a lot of plush ideas and settled on this sketch:

It is more of a Dagre Kitten :3

We talked to the people who make these things and basically it will be awesome. Stripes printed onto the fur, jowly things hanging off, long tongue XD We're looking to see if we can put some other cool details in there too like making the eyes glow-in-the-dark or something...

The reason the neck has been truncated is because it looked... bad. Long neck would be truer to form, but Dagre is supposed to be scary (or funny), not he got hit with the dumbass stick with his head all hella dragging on the floor.

The expected size of the plush will about 12 inches tall, which is pretty big! Can you imagine it sitting on your bed staring at you while you work?? haha... The expected cost around 20-25$ depending on demand (basically if we order more, the price will go down).

So what do you think, would you be interested enough to preorder a plush? Please let me know, since your response will directly affect the price or whether or not we decide to make a plush at all.

SHORT VERSION: I have no sense of how annoying I am when I post journals about merch that is available. I forsee myself doing it in the future. Happiness of my readers is the most important thing to me, so if I start annoying you, please tell me to cut it out and I will love you forever. Bunnies for everyone!!1

tl;dr versionCollapse )

I love the idea of parsimony (also known as Occam's Razor). Parsimony simply means that the least complex answer is probably the right one. In biology we use it to talk about phylogenetic relationship between organisms. For comics, I use it to make comics that are simple to understand.
some hard-earned infoCollapse )

I'm done with the school year!!

I can't believe its finally over, and that I survived.

Tomorrow and Sunday is Fanime, at which I will be attending. I am pretty sure that I will be in the artist's alley, though I'm not 100% sure since I am just sitting at a table that someone else procured for me (so lazy). I'll have like 2 things, haha... the last of my Chapter 1 comics, some Tides, some Snowball, posters and the only new things (2 Avatar prints and one new Meek print). I only made 15 copies of each because I have no money so we'll see how that goes.
after this weekendCollapse )
Anyhow! Thats the schedule. Thank you so much for sticking with me throughout my first year of student teaching. I started the first page of this chapter in the beginning of the year, and now 39 weeks later I am 37 pages closer to finishing :) I couldn't have survived this slow schedule or all of the crises that sprung up without you guys <3

Sorry, I just approved this ad on Project Wonderful. I don't know if it will be up, sometimes people make low bids that only show up rarely. However, the link it led to is so stupid that I had to talk about it here.

Oh my god. These are the ugliest things I have ever seen. Why would I want to turn my horribly disproportioned skeleton into a ninja? Hasn't it suffered enough? Why is the grip of my mustard gun veering to the southeast? Also, my massive tadpole died ^^;

One of the points boasts that "You'll be impressing your family and friends within days!" Yes, you will be impressing your family with the fact that you bought 40$ worth of shitty tutorials that you could have found for free via Google in about 20 seconds. Also I will need a signed statement of friendship from someone who is wiling to admit that they still like you after they found out that you now know how to draw not one, or two, but twenty styles (each more horrifying than the last) of anime eyes.

If you would like some tutorials that are free, I have some. You might not be able to impress your friends and family immediately but at least you'll have your dignity.
